Achievement

We make music for a living. LOTS of music. All kinds of music. Music for our fans, for commercials, for film and television, for movie trailers, remixes, video games... It’s a very cool job, where every day brings all kinds of new challenging, head-scratching problems and rewarding solutions.

We are Paul & Price, (Jonathan Paul and Damir Price). The two of us run a music production company and record label in Los Angeles for the last 6 years called redCola and release sexy albums under Paul & Price. Chances are you’ve heard our music or soundscapes through the vast media outlets over the years, either from our albums playing in Prada, our commercials for Nike, or our sonic rhythms in the latest movie trailer, whether you’re aware of it or not…

We go from creating beautiful, inspiring and inspirational music for a Land Rover, Target or Sprint on Monday, and by Tuesday we’re knee deep in a dark, menacing, oppressive, gut-wrenching film trailer for the latest Friday The 13th movie (yes there’s another one coming). And we spend the rest of the week bouncing between the two, trying to keep it all straight and make sure your bright sunny commercial doesn’t start sounding like somebody’s going to jump out with a knife at any moment and start hacking around.

In between, of course, we’re working on our artist album, coming up with new beats, vibes, stories, making new music for our fans and reconnecting with them, while still trying to keep them and ourselves on our toes, to come up with music that’s fresh and interesting, to reflect in new ways on our life experiences, or just find that syncopation that will move your ass in a way it hasn’t just moved yet. Hopefully put a smile on someone’s face.

Insight

Just a few years ago, if someone walked up and told us we would be recreating Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, full symphonic orchestra AND huge choir on top of it, singing in German, which we’d have complete control over every word and syllable uttered, every accent and phrase, our jaws would have dropped to the floor. They still are when we stop and think about it.

Did we do it with our latest software and powerful Intel based machines? Yes, from scratch. The project was for Honda worldwide. Would it have been possible without our lighting fast processors?

Sure, anything’s possible. We simply would have hired a 120 piece symphonic orchestra as well as flown in a 90 person German choir, rented a massive sound stage here in Hollywood with a conductor as well as dozens of engineers. The costs involved would have been staggering and our client would have run from us as fast as they could. With our studio gear we got the job done amazingly well, and our client walked away smiling!

Our sonic palette these days consists of so, so many colors, the hardest part sometimes is just keeping track of all of them, remembering them as an option in our next project. From organic colors and exotic instruments from around the world, to synthetic keyboard concoctions and modern snare drum sounds we felt like creating just for today.

When people ask these days which instruments do we play, we don’t say piano, guitar, bass or drums anymore. We say, “We play the computer!”
